Legion of Everblight Archangel and you: Part 2

There are many guesses floating around as to what the Archangel's stats are going to be. With that in mind and knowing approximately what they should be, I thought I would take a little time to think about how the Archangel (AA from here on out) is going to interact with the various Legion casters. Their spells, their feats, their play styles.

Saeryn - Obviously Saeryn's feat is good against anything trying to hit the AA. Or it would have been, had PP not FAQ'ed it to not work on huge bases. Wah wah...
And while her spell list has a couple interesting interactions with Banishing ward and respawn (oh, respawn) I don't think this is a good fit.

pThagrosh - Little T might be where the money is at. Currently, there is nothing that says you can't use dark revival on the AA that I have seen. So they will either have to ignore it and hope you use the feat or burn it down as fast as possible so that you have to feat early and lose a turn with it. I think this works out either way as they will have to over commit, or they will be ignoring your giant dragon monster.
Defensively, Death shroud keeps your AA alive a bit longer and makes burning him down all that much harder. Unfortunately fog of war does nothing for him, but draconic blessing does. Even though it might be better served on a unit of infantry. You may want to go all in on the AA in this list with a Carnivean for the spiny growth buff to keep him in the game as long as possible. Obviously we don't know for sure what his stats are, but with spiny growth and death shroud, you are at least effectively armor 22.  Even dice with the hardest hitting colossal, but you move faster so you should almost always be hitting first.

eThagrosh - Big pappa T also has a lot of things going for him when paired with the AA. Dragon's blood put's him at the higher armor level and let's him be further away from T since big T doesn't have Death Shroud.  But the big deal here is manifest destiny. With 4 base attacks and 4 fury, that's a lot of death the AA is going to be throwing around.  The AA kinda goes against the shredder spam idea and may not be worth trading 9 shredders for though. I'm not really sure if his feat let's the AA do anything. You may get the free attack, but I'm not sure if you get the full advance. If anyone knows and wants to chime in, I would be interested in hearing why one way or the other.
As I said, the common big pappa T list is shredder spam to maximize the benefit you get from both manifest destiny and his feat. Basically everyone goes rabid and gets 4 dice per attack/damage.  I could see this list needing a heavy hitter to deal with colossals though and the AA may fit in that slot.

pVayl - Unfortunately the AA misses out on one of pVayls key abilities - dark sentinel. Fortunately, he makes up for it by being the biggest arc node in town after you peg him with the oraculus. You can then go to town with chiller on the AA and Incite up if you wanna get crazy. While her feat doesn't do anything for the AA in particular, it does let you get at least one turn of incite in without putting her in harms way.
Her tier list is pretty awesome and lets you do pretty much everything you want with her. You have to take two units of hex hunters and 5 beasts though, so you may need to squeeze the AA in, but I think it's definitely worth it.

eVayl - Unfortunately for eVayl, she doesn't really have any direct synergies with the AA. Fortunately for her, she's one of the best warlocks out there, so I'm sure she's not really crying about it.


  1. colossals and gargantuans cannot be placed. so dark revival will not work.

  2. actually, placing a model into play that was outside of play is different from placing models in-game. So Dark Revival works on the archangel. It has been infernaled.

    1. Awesome! I haven't picked up the game in a while, but it's good to know what I can expect when I get back to it.
