6th psychic powers: Could be good? Part 2

The psychic powers list has been leaked! I covered the loyalist Marine codexes in part 1, so here's the follow-up with the xenos scum and traitors!

6th psychic powers: Could be good?

The psychic powers list has been leaked and while it isn't complete... There's at least enough info to make snap judgements! The more I hear about 6th edition the more I wobble back and forth on if I will play it at all or not.

Well, I mean... I know I will... Because I am weak of will and like rules. However, if after no one else plays the game anymore, I'm not having any fun...

THEN, I might put it down until people play again :)

But until I actually get the rules in my hand, there will be speculation!

6th Edition Orks - Battlewagons are better!!

With all the leaks and information on the net about how hull points will work, the new vehicle damage table, disembarking and the new charge rules it's time to look at how it will all affect our beloved Battlewagons.
Thats the part we care about right?
First and foremost, glancing doesn't roll on the damage chart anymore!! FUCK YA! I have lost too many Wagons too bolt pistols in the rear... so dumb.

We do know that disembarking will be out of the vehicle + movement, so everyone gets out up to 6 inches away. We also know that Fleet (on the Waagh!! turn) will let us re-roll the charge dice. The average of 2D6 with re-roll is 8. So we have effectively avoided any penalties associated with the "Assault Nerf 2012."

We will have 4 hull points, which is as many as a Landraider, so we should be pretty durable, but time will tell on how this change overall will affect vehicle durability. We do know that obscured is now a 5++ save so we did lose a little in regards to the KFF we usually have. But on the upside, it only takes 25% to become obscured, so we are now easier to hide!! I think this will bring the end of the 85 point KFF Mek tax of running Wagons and open that slot to other choices. (Possibly a warphead for MORE WAAAGHH!!!)

Overall I am very excited about the changes and I think that, over all Battlewagon's are better. I haven't seen anyone list any info on tank shocking, not enough orks in these Q&A sessions I guess.

Eldar in 6th edition, a ray of hope?

There’s been a lot of 6th edition hulla-bulloo going around. What with the white dwarf spewing half formed information and some dude on reddit tossing out little tidbits to chew on. I wanted to take a minute and talk about my first 40k love, Eldar and how they will be affected by these 6th rumors for realsies.

Guardians are cool, right???

First, I want to talk about a huge change that will have ramifications for years to come!
Swooping Hawks might be good…

6th Edition: Allies, Fortifications and the Competitive scene.

So there is a lot of talk about allies and fortifications and how they shouldn't be allowed on the tournament scene. One of the main arguments is that there will be broken combos!!  Let me tell you, there are already lists that min / max each and every point to maximum efficiency, to the point of "broken."  People "Power Game" any system, so why not allow for more variety? I have heard the example of Adepticon being 28% Grey knights being used to support this; that similar army lists make for a bland environment, and I agree. 28% of 256 using GK is lame as fuck. The best way to prevent this from happening again is to make more armies "viable." More combinations is a great way to do this. Now if we add fortifications, specifically, fortifications that allow for in game effects, such as reserve manipulation (I'm looking at you, Mr. Skyshield Landing Platform) and now we have opened a variety of doors that make even more armies possible.

IG / Orks Outflanking Madness with +2 Reserves from Astropath and Skyshield.
Vulkan / Sisters TL Madness!!!
IG / BA -10LD Fear combos.

There are a lot of possibilities and I am excited to see something new!!

Tau and Eldar are on a lot of the lists of allies for Fire Bases.

Necrons and Orks, Nothing protects Battlewagons like night fighting!

Here is a link to the pages for the known allies from GW itself.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=&section=&pIndex=0&aId=22400024a&start=1&multiPageMode=true

How allies will be used is another story, but I am all about change and I would like to see at least a few major events allow for the detachments to be added.

We will see how it all goes down on Saturday!

Huuuuggeee block of 6th info from the white dwarf

This is seriously long, so information will be posted after the break. Once I can digest all this stuff, I will add some comments.

Some sneak peek gargantuan info

Wargamescon is this weekend and privateer press is there giving away leet beta infos!

Check out a sneak peek of a couple abilities from the upcoming gargantuans

Skorne Mammoth's Cannon
Rng:10     Rate of Fire: 3     AOE:4     POW:15

That's a big gun... That'll be blasting holes in that ass in no time!
Legion Archangel's Bite Melee Attack
P+S: 19, has the Consume ability
Bite of 19 is pretty ok. Hopefully it has more than this though. Of course it has consume though, dragons be hungry!
Model also has the Ride-by-attack
That's kinda cool. Depends on how fast this big dude is though!
Circle WoldWrath's Animus
Druid's Wrath
Cost:2     Range: Self
Friendly faction model's magic attack rolls against enemy models within 10" of this model are boosted.
That's a pretty beefy buff for spellcasters.

Hopefully there will be more as the weekend progresses, stay tuned!

Awesome goings on of awesomeness!

Hey all, I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for reading!
Cheers!

Well, that's about enough talk about people that aren't me!

There's some really cool things going on around the internet and I wanted to take a minute to talk about them. First of all, my excellent friends at house of paincakes are running their annual(?) blog contest, the HOP idol. And I entered! And got in! Check out the first article I wrote for them here. It's a quick piece talking about the conundrum of what path should I take to get better at Hordes. My first actual entry for the contest will be up at the end of the month, so make sure to go vote for me!

Secondly, speaking of Hordes... I will soon have an article on  frontline gaming where I run down my rudimentary knowledge of the differences between warmachine and hordes. I have talked with Reece (who runs frontline gaming up north) at a couple of tournaments over the last year or so and he's a pretty cool guy. So when he put the call out for people to help contribute to his blog, I jumped at the chance. Here's my look at the fundamental differences between warmachine and hordes from the perspective of a beginner.

Thirdly, Apparently I'm awesome! Who knew???
Does anyone else find it odd that there are two Russell's and they are right next to each other?

I know that people who play competitive 40k generally take rankings HQ with a grain of salt since it really doesn't mean much... But I'm pretty stoked to see my name up there at the top of US players! I've only really been playing in tournaments since the first BAO and I made it up to number 9! Now all I need to do is win a damn tournament and get some prizes, haha. I'm sick of spending money on this crap!

I know 6th rumors are flying across the internet and most of them sound pretty crappy, but keep your chins up everyone!  I think with the proper adjustments, tournament play might still be viable. We'll have to get a hold of the complete rulebook to be sure, but the independent organizers have been holding the tournament scene together for years with no support. They are resourceful fellows who will do their best to support the community. Thanks guys!

THIS IS SPARTA! New Forgeworld heavy Transport

In the newest email from Forge World we have preview images of the Spartan Assault Tank.

I was expecting a beard too...
For those of you that don't want to click the link and read the jargon. It's a transport for 25 marines, 2X Quad Lascannons, TL Heavy Bolters and is faster than any other vehicle because it's got a V6 inline with titanium valve springs.

Its pretty bad ass, and they say its much larger than a landraider, which seems odd, considering it looks like it has land raider tracks, but whatev's. Can finally fit 20 Khorne Berserkers + Kharn + Chaos Lord with MoS and Lightning Claws all in 1 vehicle! Chaos Space Marine Deathstar HOOO!!!!!

It is £95.00 though. Damn.. thats like $148.15! Damn!

GW july releases aka, those are some expensive books!

The July releases are out and it's a definite confirmation of 6th being released on the 30th. (not that we didn't know that already) There are some interesting things below, if by interesting I mean expensive as hell! $132 for the collector's edition? Hopefully it comes with a gold bar. I know collector's editions are meant to be spendy and special, but that's almost twice the cost of the regular book.

In addition to 6th, we have the very exciting release of... a bunch of Tau stuff? And mega-nobz? Ummm, what? Not exactly what everyone was clamoring for. GW is not exactly awesome at riding the wave of release excitement. Imo, they should've released a codex simultaneously that took advantage of the new rules. As well as had some new models ready to go.

There's also the confirmation of psychic cards... Sucky. Maybe they won't be bad? I'm trying to keep my chin up here, but I really don't need another set of cards to look through while I play 40k. That's why I have a codex.

Also, remember the raffle we are doing! Only a couple more days to get in on the amazon certificate. I picked up the dakkajet this weekend, i would hate for it to go to waste!

Potential Dark Angels codex cover leak???

I saw this over on dakka and they are saying this might be the 6th edition cover. I find it doubtful as there are only dark angels on the cover!

The picture is kind of crap, but it is obviously a hard bound book with multiple Dark Angel marines on it. Green armor and red bolters as well as the trademark DA power sword the main guy on the cover is holding pretty much all point to DA.

Does this mean that we will see hard cover 40K codexes?
Does this mean that DA is closer than everyone had thought?
Does this mean that I can finally dust off my robed marines and have a toga party?!?!

Only time will tell. Until then, enjoy your conjecturing!

Colossals, Assssemmmmblllllllleeee!!!!

My buddy Travis over at the flgs just posted this pic of the assembled colossals! They look ready to rock some face on the table top. Check them out

Big guys deserve a big picture

That's not what I want to see across the table. The Archangel isn't coming out for some time, so I'm going to just go ahead and avoid people playing titans in my little skirmish game, haha! I like how the Khador one looks, but the other two leave a little something to be desired imo. The Stormwall looks like a big lightbulb and the Kraken has that big gun on it's head that makes it look like a japanese schoolgirls worst nightmare.

The only one missing here is the mountain king. That guy looks boss.  When you are the king of a mountain because you carry it on your back, you deserve respect. The best I could do is "backpack king" or "t-shirt king". Not nearly as impressive. His rules are a bit meh from what I understand, but my buddy assures me that they are pretty good. Basically with whelp shedding and snacking, he will stay alive forever unless your opponent can kill him in one shot.

I do think the idea of these kind of super heavies in a supposed skirmish game is a bit weird, but PP has done a good job on them by making them appropriately costed and not ridiculously overpowered. But mostly, I can't wait to play with a giant dragon! C'moonnnnn Archangel!!!

Why DakkaJets are good.

Have you all heard the news? Dakkajets and the other Ork planes are horrible!!!

AV10 dies too fast!

Str 6 isn't enough!

Lootas are better!

All of these things are incorrect and I am here to dispel the myths about the DakkaJets.

Its like this, but red!

Put your set backs in their upright and locked positions, this one is going to get bumpy!!!

40k RTT: Grey Knights ftw! Game 3 vs Eldar

Annnndddd Game 3!

This weekend, I finally proved that grey knights are the most overpowered book in a decade by beating up on a couple of out of date codexes and tying with Guard. Obviously, Grey knights are a powerhouse and no one can stand before them!

Bam! Pow! Baysplosions!!!
Saturday morning, I woke up early (as I had planned to just sleep the day away) and decided that I would go to the RTT. Vacation hadn't gone all that hot and I ended up getting a speeding ticket on the way home so I was feeling a bit down and needed to get out of the house. Having no idea what the missions were gonna be, I threw together a list on battlescribe and then for shits and giggles I threw in a land raider I had recently acquired from the bits bin. It has bad ass Inquisitorial forge world doors, how could I not get it???

Here's what I came up with
HQs
Crowe!
Grand master w/psykotroke, rad, blind, incinerator. (I went full cheese, sorry internet)

Elite
Vindicaire (Brought him out of retirement. He's still not quite worth 145 points imo)

Troops
Purifiers x 5 w/2 x psycannon, 3 halberds Razorback w/ heavy bolters, psybolt
Purifiers x 5 w/2 x psycannon, 3 halberds Razorback w/ heavy bolters, psybolt
Purifiers x 5 w/2 x psycannon, 3 halberds Razorback w/ heavy bolters, psybolt
Strike Squad x 5 w/psycannon
Purifiers x 8 w/warding staff, daemon hammer, 2 incinerators, 4 halberds, psybolt (worthless upgrade btw)

Heavy
Dreadnought w/2xtwin-linked autocannon, psybolt
Land Raider! - godhammer pattern w/psybolt, awesome doors upgrade!

Not the most exciting or innovative grey knights list to ever come out of anyone's brain, but it was fairly effective at getting the job done. And I got to use the Grand Strategy for something other than scoring in 2 of the three games!

Newest 6th edition rumors

I haven't talked too much about 6th here besides the pancake edition stuff that was out a couple months ago.  The rumors of late have done nothing but make me sad, but there are a few glimmers of hope. Here are a couple of the newest fairly interesting rumors:

From Darnok on Warseer

AP are on ccw but he says power weapons are ap 2, not 3. - I was kind of excited for 6th edition, terminator madness (as the previous rumor had PW at ap3). This doesn't really make any sense to have them as AP2 though. In this case, they are exactly the same in all circumstances currently if the rules stay mostly the same. So what is the point of putting AP on CCWs then?? To make Orks worse? It might open some design space, but if there is not a commonly available ap3 weapon that doesn't kill terminators, then nothing changes. If the most common is ap4, 5, and 6 then it just makes xenos worse in CC and marines about the same.
When you charge it's double your move, infantry move 6, bikes 8 cav 7 etc. - This is reminiscent of the previous rumor. Making it similar to warmahordes in which you have certain 'move options' that will get you into combat or further away.
It's move assault then shooting now! - This is a rumor from pancake as well. Take with a grain of salt. But it would certainly change the game mechanics. Especially if you can shoot after assault.
Fnp is 5+. Master crafted ccw give you a 5+ invuln save - This is pretty interesting and not something I'd heard before. FNP being a 5+ base is fine. 4+ is a bit much for armies that don't have it available.  The master crafted CCW thing is pretty interesting. That makes GKs ability to purchase MC weapons all over the place pretty awesome. And makes swords with their +1 to invul saves finally worth a damn. 5 points to give my justicar a 4+ in CC is definitely worth it imo. Hopefully they will make this option available to more than just marines though. I would definitely like to see Banshees with this.
When you shoot you roll to hit depending on the speed of your target. Fast vehicles you always need a 6. - Again a similar rule from pancake. One I think would do quite well for the game. And one that would buff Eldar and DE quite a lot.  Maybe this is just a misread from the flyer rules?
A unit can't claim a object while inside a vehicle. - Is this a mis-type or are there going to be "objects" to claim?
There's new kinds of instance death. If your say strengh 8 vs a space marine captain toughness 4
you only do 2 wounds! Strengh (9?) or more would do 3 wounds & kill him. - This is something I was talking to my friends about months ago. I think this is an excellent move and makes multi-wound t4 models a little more desirable.  Meltas still ID Crowe though :(
In kill point missions you get kill points based on what the units points cost, so for example a
landraider would be worth 5 kill points & a unit of marines 3pts.- Interesting I guess, sounds like victory points to me. But we'll have to see how the other missions play out

6th is right around the corner if the internet is to be believed. What rumors are getting you guys excited??

Dok and Soldado beat Pasadena! - 40k RTT recap. DakkaJets are AWESOME!

Annddd, Were back!!!

After a week at the Beach (Location hidden, to keep people off our spot!)

With that said both Dok and I both played in the RTT at Game Empire in Pasadena on Saturday.

The format was BAO missions, with 1 game of each deployment @ 2000 points.

I think Dok will be recapping his games so I won't steal his thunder, but the short of it is:
Dok takes first place with Grey Knights, Blood Lord Soldado takes 2nd with Orks!!!

I will recap the games I played after the break!

Holy crap, Archangel: legion of everblight gargantuan

123 this is freakin awesome! From this excellent thread on Dakka:

That there is a Dddddrrrragon!
Um, I want to touch
That guy back there may look like me, but he is way more awesome

Wow, I was expecting something along the lines of a huge Angelius and that's pretty much what they came through with. No word on the stats for this guy, but they have the full stat card for the mountain king!

Here's a bunch of other stuff from privateer's lock and load 2012

-New Bog Trog warlock incoming, named Rask
-Bonegrinder Farrow Warlock is named Midas - new piglock. That's cool I guess, but they really seem to need more unit selections.
-“Swamp Shamblers” – Bog Trog zombies
-Lylyth3 will be an Epic Cavalry Battle Engine Warlock on a 120mm base – an Ulk-drawn bladed sleigh - neat, a caster battle engine? The preview drawing makes it look a bit like santa, but I'm sure this will be bad ass.
-The Hunters Grim – Warlock Unit, Grim Angus w/ 2 pygs  - I think this is trollbloods from the picture.  A 3 unit caster is pretty interesting as well. I guess that could potentially spread out your control range pretty far, depending on the rules they use
-Makeda3 will be a warlock unit, Makeda with two Exalted Guardians
-New Retribution unit will be infantry with ‘razorblades’; Eiryss3 will be their UA
-Greylord Outriders – Khadoran light cavalry
-Iron Fang Kovnik armed with an axe – precursor to an IF unit with axes?
-Tempest Blazers – Gunmage light cavalry
-Bane Riders – Bane Knight heavy cavalry - I <3 banes. Bane cavalry on heavy undead horses should be bad ass.
-Intimated that there were light cavalry on the way for Protectorate and Mercenaries
-Plastic Tharn kit – large bows made of stag horns, likely same kit will be used to make plastic Ravagers
-Hordes: Gargantuans will be a “catching up” book, returning to multiple releases per book; expected Spring 2013 release - spring 2013 is a long time away. Sad face
-All Gargantuans and Colossals are planned to be released during 2012 - But at least there's that
-Skorne Mammoth = ENORMOUS Titan - ...
