Kate Upton says, buy my stuff!

The time has come to put away childish things in favor of other childish things that are more fun to me at the moment. So I am looking to get rid of some of my 40k armies. Grey Knights is first on the chopping block.

Here's a list of the Grey Knight items for sale
13 Halberd/Storm bolter Marines (1 unpainted)
7 Psycannon Marines
2 Hammer/Storm bolter Marines (1 unpainted)
1 Warding Staff/Storm bolter Marine
2 Incinerator Marines
4 Sword/Storm Bolter Marines
1 Vindicaire Assassin
1 Inquisitor w/book&bolter
1 Castellean Crowe
1 Inquisitor Coteaz
2 Brother Captain Stern (1 unpainted)
1 Terminator w/psycannon, Sword (Used as grand master)
1 Terminator w/incinerator, Sword (used as cheaper Grand master)
3 Heavy Bolter Razorbacks
2 Dreadknights w/removable heavy incinerator, sword, and hand
2 Dreadnoughts w/2xautocannon. 1 has the forgworld Grey knight torso and all the arms are from forgeworld
1 Land Raider (godhammer, unpainted) w/Grey Knight doors from forgeworld
2 Storm ravens w/multi-melta, assault cannon
12 assorted henchmen to use as fodder
They are painted to a good tabletop standard that is supposed to look like they are made of stone and copper. Somewhat steampunk, somewhat ancient stone warrior. Some are based on "lost souls" bases from Mr. Dandy.  You may notice some chipping on the bases in the pictures. They can easily be retouched, but the bases do not hold paint all that well.

I don't want to bog down the main page, so pics after the jump and this gif of Kate Upton!

Malifaux 2nd edition!

Hey all, I know it's been a while since anything has graced the pages of 3forint. I just haven't been playing any sort of war game recently. After the BAO, I really put some thought into it and 40k just isn't the game for me anymore. I have lost whatever passion I had for the strategic aspects of the game and GW itself is just sucking all the fun out of the game for me. With that out of the way, I would like to post about some other games!

Just Yesterday, Wyrd games announced Malifaux 2nd edition! The new edition will be pre-released at Gen-Con this year on August 15th with a regular release in October. They will be releasing teaser images, models and other cool stuff in the meantime. The first of which....

Is this little neverborn lady
Now who that is, I don't know. The image name is Candy, but the pre-release info implies that it's "Tera, the Herald of Oblivion".

Some other cool stuff from the pre-release info
  1. Streamlined rules - Could be good. hopefully they go in the right direction here as the rules weren't that hard to follow in the first place
  2. New Masters - Sweeeeeet. It mentions henchmen getting promoted, so that could open some sweet new lists with old favorites.
  3. Gremlins to be a faction - This might get my buddy Logan to play, haha
  4. Easier to read card format - This is awesome. The cards are a bit tough to parse at first and anything to make these better is cool by me.
  5. Story moves forward - That's a thing that happens in a game??? (hint, hint gw! haha)
  6. FAQ - I guess they are centralizing their faq off of the forums. Seems like a good move
All in all, this looks like it could be a cool release. And Wyrd makes really cool models and has the best Gen Con specialty models, so I'm sure this year at Gen Con will be awesome for them!

A quick note. Are there any games in particular you guys would like to see me cover? I've mostly been playing magic, but I wasn't sure if this was the right place to talk about that. Let me know!

Chaos Daemons - Flying Circus Take 2!

Hey party people,

I am on the cusp of deciding if I want to go to KingdomCon in San Diego and play in the Broadside bash in a couple of weeks.

Following the dismal performance at the Bay Area Open it has really helped me evaluate the army I am going to take and whos and the whats of my short comings in that particular event.

What did I lose to?

Flamers / Screamers Demons - Check Ill never lose to that again.
Zombie swarm -  I have a solution for that.
Tyranids - I got a solution for that too!!!!

Here comes the 2nd version of the Daemon flying circus, equipped with:

Answers to all my god damn problems.

Bitches are definitely not my problem in 40k
List and ideas after the break!

Dok's BAO

Hello everyone, as you may or may not know last week was the Bay Area Open in Antioch, CA. This is the big tournament for us around here as it's run by cool people that we know and is generally pretty straightforward in it's missions and rules of play. (Also, it doesn't hurt that I've done pretty well in the past)

This year? Spoiler alert!

Not so much. (89th place is just the 88th loser)
I know wat duck... I know...

I wanted to take some time and talk about what was different this year and how that might have affected people's performance. One thing you may notice when looking at the top of the stack is that there aren't any familiar faces from the years prior. The faces were at the event... they just all looked sad and not in the top spots.

Remember when I told you all I was awesome?

Well Awesomeness confirmed!!!!

Reece over at Frontline Gaming gave called me out as one of the "Really Good Players" that lost to Liz as she won the whole damn thing on their podcast. It is awesome to be mentioned a long with Allan, and Allan (Blackmoor)

Here is a shameless plug for my awesomeness!!

I also took a few pics of peoples armies while we are there so if that's the type of thing you are interested, you should probably click into to the main article.

IA 12: the Fall of Orpheus

It's been a while since I read Sandman, But I don't remember space marines hanging around when Orpheus fell...
Really though, Forgeworld announced that they are getting ready to preview IA 12 at Forgeworld open day! From the teaser trailer, it looks like necrons, IG, and Minotaurs are going to be battling it out. Minotaurs are cool, and Necrons could always use some more love, but aren't they tired of designing for IG?

Here's the trailer anyway, it's got some cool stuff going on and a pretty clear "hint" as to who the protagonists of this book are.

Armies of the BAO 2013

Every year, I like to cruise around and get some pics of all the awesome stuff that people bring out to the Bay Area Open. Here's a look at some of the cool armies from this year.

Note: I will have my opinions of the event and a recap of how it went for me a little later this week I think. It was super exhausting and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the shit that went down. Anyways, on to the pictures!

Final BAO list + rant!

BLAM! The BAO is this weekend! It sure did sneak up on me... I hadn't really finalized my list (or painted my army) until yesterday, so I'm pretty much going in with only a rudimentary idea if this army will even work or not. Awesome! I will definitely stock up on some beers in the case of an 0-2 start.

This is where it's at!
A quick side rant... There has been some amount of controversy over the rulings for their tournament FAQ. Accusations over someone trying to exclude someone else, rules changes, and whether they were trying to mislead the community. To which I say, bollocks. Every 40k GT ever has "changed the rules" of the tournament to make it more interesting or to make the game playable.  Have you ever been to a GT where it was strict book missions and you used straight wording from the books with no definition of what rulings might be in advance? No, that's stupid. People pay a lot of money to go to these things and want to know what to expect. No one wants to build a list for an event and then get blown out when the judges rule it a different way than they expect.

The only thing I can really see people complaining about here is the lateness of the thing. There weren't really that many big changes in their FAQ other than their erring on the side of caution with the banner of devastation ruling. And that would only really affect people who were following the initial hubbub of the codex and the previous allowance of the banner affecting stormbolters by the BAO guys.

Rants aside, I figured out my list! Here it is!

Daemons of Chaos pre-orders are up

Take a look here.

Surprise!! There are 4(yes 4) limited edition codexes to buy... each with a small picture of a unit from it's respective god and a sweet little symbol on the cover.

wat duck don't have time for that

We could totally see this coming since they are all about their limited edition releases nowadays. But c'mon GW, at least put something cool on the books! Why the troops of the gods? Why not a greater daemon or the god themselves. I mean, I'm not going to buy the damn thing either way (Burn, daemon scum!!!) but they are not providing any apparent value for double the price.

Some people have commented that the range looks really stupid. In fact we were just talking about that today at the FLGS.  I don't really have any problem with it, but I do think they could do a better job with the biggest baddies in the 40k universe.

I mean, are genetically engineered super warriors really supposed to fear the moon man from mcdonalds?
Would you like $90 fries with that?

On the edge of glory - Prep for the BAO!!

What's up party people!!!

So it's that time of the year, where Dok and I make the long drive up from the Greater Los Angeles area to the Greater San Francisco area to play some mother fucking WARHAMMER!!!! This year we will be headed up with Brothererekose and possibly OverWatchCnC from Capture and Control

Reece and his crew at Frontline Gaming are host the third annual Bay Area Open - Warhammer 40,000 singles championship.

To Recap:

Year 1, I placed in like the top 40, which is horrible!!
Year 2, 14th place... Waaaay better, only losing to first place and 3rd place. Damn OP codexes (I Kid!)

To predict the future

Probably not... I will actually be happy if I get back to 40th place with my practice going in and available army.

Whats that? You want to know what list I am playing?

Privateer Press announces a new Warmachine Faction: Cyriss

That's right ladies and gentlemen, it's a new faction for Warmachine; the Convergence of Cyriss!
Pretty cool logo

Here are as many pics as could be gathered from the livestream on TwitchTV

Some of the items to take away:

All the previewed Warcasters give an ability to the "Vectors" (Warjacks) in their battlegroup. For example, The Iron Mother gives all of the models in her battlegroup Arc-Node. Pretty intense.

MAT X and RAT X means that the Vector uses the MAT / RAT of it's Warcaster. Not that awesome for the Iron Mother, seeing as shes MAT 5 / RAT 5, but Axis, The Harmonic Enforcer is MAT 7 / RAT 2, MELEE BEAT STICKS ALL OVER THIS MOFO!!!

The Vectors seem like they will pass focus after using it, meaning there is more focus on activation order and allocation will be less of a crucial step.

A lot of this will be available at Lock and Load in a few months.

Buzz on the internet so far has been pretty positive and it seems like it will be very interested to play with a lot of nuances to master.

Death from the Skies!!!

OMG!!!! (sarcasm)

Or is it???
From Dakka:
A new 40k supplement book will be released on 16th February:
"Death from the Skies" (26€, mail order only, chance of being in English only).

70 page "compendium".
It will have updated 6th edition rules for flyers:
Stormraven (now available to space marines and BT)
Storm Talon
Ork Bomba / dakka jet / burna bomba
Valkyrie / vendetta
Razorwing & Void Raven
Night Scythe / doom scythe
also dog fighting rules from crusade of fire and a new flyers scenario.

Interesting that it has some models that already have rules for 6th ed. Does that imply that the rules for some of those will be changing? Hopefully they will pump up some of the lame duck options here and deflate some of the more op of the items. (hack, cough, vendetta)

It will also be interesting to see how "official" these rules are. This is the first non-WD addition to the rules in recent memory, so I am curious to see if they are adopted by the tournament circuit or not. And how confused people will become if they don't have this book or don't want to play with it's rules.

1st DA BAO list idea

I just want to spit ball a DA list idea based on stuff I have already.

I know the bike list is what's hot on the streets right now and I do think it's really good. However, I only own like 5 bikes... so blowing at least $500 on bikes doesn't sound awesome to me, haha.

List idea 1 - what I shall call "dudes"

Codex DA: First impressions

I know, why so soon?

Well, I just got my book in the mail yesterday as I ordered it through a discount retailer and they decided to send it media mail which took a week or so. Wah wah... But it's here and I've given it a look over so I wanted to talk about it a bit. Because that's what I do here!

 First look: The book itself
Dark Angels as fuck!

This is the first hardcover codex I've bought so it's a bit new to me.
The good - The artwork is very nice and it will look good as a tabletop display piece. The page stock seems very good and the art inside is well done as well.
The Bad - The part that everyone complains about, the price. I paid less than msrp for mine, but it was still more than any other codex I've bought. I'm not sure where they are claiming this value for the $20 jump in price. And the fact that the apple store codex is the same price is atrocious. The book also looks like it's too fancy for extended tournament play. The binding appears to be a bit weak and the pages do this weird curling in thing when the book has been open for more than a couple minutes.
Protip to GW: Make the rules available separate from the fluff in a durable, travel friendly pamphlet size(Something akin to the Dark Vengeance rulebook). Reprint it with the proper errata. Sell it for $20. Make mass profit.

New FAQ 1.2 recap and review

It's always an exciting day when new FAQ's are released as the game can change in many strange ways at the whim of GW. Whether it was meant to be that way from the start or not, who knows? But that isn't how the books were printed so that's not how we play.
When are they going to answer the FAQ "wtf were they thinking?"

Today is another one of those FAQ days and things, they are a changing. Take a look to see what's changing today in warhammer and some of my thoughts on how these changes will change the game... With changing...

2012 GW 40k release review

Me with Codex: Dark Angels...
Looking back at last year (We made it!!! No Mayan apocalypse for us), there was actually quite a lot of GW activity related to 40k. Not all of it was awesome. To be fair some of the things they did this year were pretty cool. Necrons came back (Duh, they always come back) and got a pretty decent codex. Chaos got some cool models, and they teased Dark Angels all year and then didn't release them. I guess Dark Vengeance counts?  T-minus 5 days until I get my grubby little hands on that codex!

March - Space Wolves and Tyranids model refresh
Some really cool stuff for the Tyranid range and some "why so soon?" stuff for the SW range.  The Hive Tyrant model was awesome and the thunderwolf cav models were not as good as the third party manufacturers. This month had it's ups and downs, but I definitely think it was a positive overall. It reinvigorated Tyranid players who were flagging at the time and gave SW players stuff they already had.

April - New Paints
I did absolutely nothing with the new paint line. People seem to be happy with them and more options are always better imo.

DA rules rumors

I haven't been able to find too much on the actual rules for the upcoming DA book, that is until today!

From over on dakka, user Pretre posted a big conglomeration of rules. I wanna take a look at those and talk about them individually and try to come up with some semblance of how this codex will play. I cleaned up the list a bit, so hopefully it will be a bit easier to get info from. Take a look.

Dreadknights in 6E

Anyone who's followed me for a while knows that I have been playing Dreadknights since they were released. I love my big baby Terminator carriers!

It's tactical dreadnought armor, C'mon x-to-the-z... Get it right!

In 5th edition I tried many different variants in casual games, but when it came to tournaments... There was only ever one choice: A Personal Teleporter and Heavy Incinerator.  The Dreadknight is by far the most versatile unit in the codex when equipped thusly.  It has a high amount of mobility, is very durable and can roast light vehicles and infantry without much fear of reprisal.

Let's take a look at his available options and see how this awesome unit has changed in 6E.

Dark Angels are up for advance order!!!

I know it's been a while since I last posted, but I wanted to get this out there because I'm pretty excited for this release. Not quite as excited for the price tags, but it is what it is. I will be doing some battle reports and other non-sense in the near future, so keep an eye out. Dark Angels, woo!
